After a long winter and the death of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton stepped into the tragically and usually treacherously high heeled shoes of his label. She did not do so with the intention of breathing life into a label that had lost it. She paid tribute to an artist taken before his time revisitting motifs from old collections as well drawing inspiration from Spring as a season itself. The collection saw classically McQueen feather bodices and flowing printed chiffon skirts as well as smart and clever tailoring with torn shoulders and double waists, creative cutouts, ruffles galore, pirate buckles and embroidered military jackets. Drawing on Spring the collection began with virginal whites like snow drops creeping up through the ground-the collection came to life on grass pushing its way up through wooden floors in search of light.

There were also intricately weaved wheatsheaf dresses and hair thatched like the roof of a farmer's house. Butterflies came out of hiding too to adorn dresses and ornate wedges-perhaps a metaphor for the brevity of life ala Keats.

Gold lace and black flowers almost looked stitched straight into the skin in the way of weeping willow dresses and chiffon was dyed and pleated to look like the twists of a wood grain or a sky swollen with rain.

In the finale dress Nimue Smit, with the face of a wood nymph floated down the runway in a lilac feather gown worthy of Persephone, the greek goddess of spring, pulling the buds up through the soil by hand to see the light of a new Spring.

On-screen couple Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams lit up the cover of W Magazine promoting their new film 'Blue Valentine' which has received rave reviews and even Oscars talk during its film festival premiere and press tour.

'Blue Valentine' is a character study by director Derek Cianfrance charting the romance of a married couple through a series of flashbacks weaving present and past with a beautiful soundtrack. Casting Ryan Gosling makes this a definite must-see for me as a huge fan of his work on screen and on piano in his dark, gothic band, Dead Man's Bones.

Never heard of Ryan Gosling and want to see more of his films? I'd suggest either quirky tragicomedy 'Lars & The Real Girl' or thought-provoking, quote-worthy crime drama 'United States of Leland'.

Superstar Sunday- Carey Mulligan

I don't think it's any coincidence that 'Carey' is Latin for beloved. I can't be the only person whose fallen head over heels for Carey Mulligan's softly spoken classically British accent and adorable dimples since seeing 'An Education'. Her appeal stretches across the pond at the very least with Vogue US casting her as their latest cover star in a couture shoot.

She also wore a customized Christopher Kane galaxy print dress to the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of intriguing new book to film adaptation 'Never Let Me Go'. Carey stars in the film with two of my other favourite actors, new Spiderman Andrew Garfield and premiere regular Keira Knightley.

The length and high neckline are demure whilst the tight bodice and clashing heels inject a little playful sex appeal. Carey is both beloved and beautiful.

I save photos of celebrities wearing inspiring or comment worthy outfits daily to share with you lovely readers and obviously with my absence a backlog has amassed. Hopefully you don't mind at all and I'm showing you something you haven't seen before. If not, apologies & virtual cookies?

Glee is huge right now so are it's sought and enamoured after stars. I want to have a girlcrush on beautiful italian Lea Michele but not having watched the show I don't have much to base it on other than her otherwordly vegan powered legs, gleaming skin and that beautiful head of hair! If you love Lea Michele tell me things about her to send me over the edge to girlcrushing or even try to convince me to start watching Glee? Here she is at the new season afterparty wearing that dazzling, dimpled smile and a peekaboo lace dress by Erdem.

Stunning co-star Diana Agron was also at the party. She went for brights too but in butter-wouldn't-melt yellow instead of turquoise-a dress with intricate shoulder detail by Carolina Herreira.

Moving on to, television legend 'The OC' alumni, Rachel Bilson who has been looking effortlessly stylish at several fashion events this season.

She looks gorgeous dressed up in an eyecatching dress by Suno and just as gorgeous dressed down in cute and casual shorts and blouse combination by Vanessa Bruno. I am in love with her two-tone California blonde hair.

Blake Lively has been jet-setting across the globe promoting a slew of new films as well as filming the new season of Gossip Girl in Paris with the rest of the cast. Press tours are a great opportunity to showcase different styles hot off the runways and Blake's long and lean body makes her the perfect mannequin, already favoured by many of fashion's top players including Editor-In-Chief of Vogue US, Anna Wintour.

Blake looked feminine in masculine tailored trousers with a wrap obi-style belt & an oatmeal blouse by Preen at a premiere for her Ben Affleck directed flick 'Town'. Blake didn't wear the trousers at the Toronto International Film Festival. Instead she opted for a blood red sequinned bodycon dress by Chanel and matching pumps. Earlier in the month she was spotted at Fashion Night Out in NYC in a colourful print bustier number by Marchesa.

Masculine chic, blonde bombshell, pared down girl next door-what can't Blake pull off with ease? How about her troubled character in gritty crime drama 'Town'?

Many apologies for my lack of updates thus far but life is becoming hectic with university oncoming. Exciting but currently uncertain-fingers crossed for me that financial problems sort themselves out please. In my absence in the blogosphere certain celebrities have been knocking it out of the park style wise. Film festivals are packed back to back with red carpet premieres just made for beautiful gowns and Venice is just the city to revel in artistic creations that conjure up images of another time.

I went to Venice as a teenager on an art trip with my school and it has stayed in the back of my head ever since calling me back. It was just so beautiful and laid back-a truly beautiful city with art and beauty over every bridge. I may have had eye-catching waist length braids but I never had the priviledge of wearing anything as beautiful as these girls...

I give the beautiful Michelle Williams a thumbs up for her Jason Wu gown.

Super cute rising star Elle Fanning was also at the Venice Film Festival to premiere her new movie 'Somewhere' by Sofia Coppola. I love the whimsical under-the-sea-blue Marc Jacobs dress she chose to grace the red carpet but the love stops there. The shoes may be age appopriate but they're less than fitting for a dress so divine it looks like it grew up out of the Venetian canals. Here are my shoe suggestions for walking in a city of water;

Heel conscious but ultra chic sude bow Giambattista Valli pumps or slightly more adventurous lace front Alais peep-toe ankle boots.

These coveted Alexander Wang peep-toe boots would have made her dress pop whilst the clear plastic crystal embellished Brian Atwood platform sandals would have played up the fantasy theme.

Wishlist Wednesday

It's been a considerably long time since I compiled one of these weekly wishlists and I feel as though my taste has changed some what since the last one. These days I'm attracted to basic colour combinations; marl grey, khaki, sandstone, black, white and clean lines and simple shapes rather then fussy layered grunge attire. Here are a few things I'd do unspeakable things to have in my possession;

That first outfit is basically Chloe inspired perfection. Quirky wedge boots & vintage style shoes & hats will always appeal to me, as will capes and cloaks and ear cuffs with chains. The mushroom print silk jacket is a thing of Alice In Wonderland joy. It would go so well with anything slightly distressed, torn or dark and the sheer quality to that floral dress really grabs me. I can just see it now with a heavy fur collared parka, socks and boots.

As much as I will always adore my old favourites when it comes to models, the industry discovers new beauties daily and by the dozen in every far flung corner of the world. Here are those who have caught my eye lately;

Anais Pouliot is like a model version of teen queen Selena Gomez.

Ashley Smith has the classic formula of gapped teeth & tomboy charm in the bag.

The beautiful Bo Don has a stare that could contain daggers or delights.

The icelandic beauty with the tongue twisting name Brynja Jónbjarnardóttir has freckles like little stars and a watery stare.

Charlotte Bos & Charlotte Nolting are two very different girls with the same name. Bos is downturned & sad eyed whilst Nolting is all summery girl-next-door smiles. I love both.

Naomi Preizler is a contrasting kind of backwards beauty with light hair & brooding dark eyes.

Leaving the best until last with Vika Volkute & her exotic charms. Her eyes like trees that haven't seen much sun with all that golden skin and Brooke Shields in the Blue Lagoon brows are dreamy and impossible.

It's been a very long time. Much apologies my lovelies but I am back for good now and here to show you some films which have caught my eye lately & got my imagination turning.

I think anyone & everyone saw Christopher Nolan's dream state mind bender 'Inception' over the weekend so I'll be leaving it out of this post & dedicating a big post to it at some time this week but if you saw it;
What were your thoughts on Inception?
Here's what else I'm wanting to watch:

1. Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Let us begin with the one & only epic, end of an era, potentially life ruining movie of the year. Yes I take Harry Potter that seriously. I'm kind of broken up about it but so excited at the same time. Everything about it is so delicious.
Tell me if you like or hate Harry Potter & who your favourite character is & why & I'll love you forever.

2. Tanner Hall

Prep school coming of age dramas are very much up my street. An Education & Cracks just weren't enough. I want more secrets, lies & betrayal in short skirts with knee high socks & blazers.

3. Life During Wartime

I am big fan of Todd Solondz's work. It's colourful, stylish, cheery & the dialogue is short & not always sweet, unflinchingly honest. Oh all of my favourite things. If you haven't seen Welcome to the Dollhouse yet, jump to it!

4. Easy A

Funny, nerdy, relatable: that's Emma Stone for you. Adoring her the more of her I see. She was wonderfully endearing in The House Bunny & sexy & play pretend ruthless in Zombieland. Early 2000's Lindsey Lohan kind of girl who will hopefully not go down the same path. She's a rising star.

5. Pierrot le Fou

I have yet to see this but because of the amount of screen captures posted online I feel like I have. It's a french classic by a film genius. Stylish & beautiful & starring the stunning style icon Anna Karina.

The Costume Insitute Gala MET Ball is a highly anticipated event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and hosted anuually, this year by Ophrah & Patrick Robinson of The Gap & Vogue US's Anna Wintour. Anyone who is anybody is there & it's bascially an opportunity to be seen & for designers to showcase their most beautiful gowns. And who better to wear them than models? These girls get it right on the catwalk and off.

Karolina Kurkova in Joseph Altuzarra & Lily Donaldson in Marc Jacobs.

Jamie Bochert in Rodarte for Gap & Karlie Kloss in Donna Karan.

Amber Valletta in RM by Roland Mouret & Doutzen Kroes looking like a princess in Zac Posen.

Whilst Coco Rocha also in Zac Posen blew my mind.

Young Hollywood

Emma Watson looked like a total goddess in Burberry whilst Taylor Swift worked a more innocent twist on white floor length in Ralph Lauren.

Emma Roberts looked chic & cute in a backless Marni dress & Lily Collins in Chanel. Would you look at those pearl heels?

Blake Lively looking down right delectable in Marchesa & the beautiful Camilla Belle in Jason Wu. Red is such a good colour for her.

Everyone Else

French girlcrush Chalotte Gainsbourg looked quirky & colourful in Balenciaga & Zoe Kazan wore a cute cut-out Peter Som dress.

Kate Bosworth looked beautiful as always in backless Valentino & Kirsten Dunst went for whiter than white in Rodarte for Gap.

Stylist Rachel Zoe looked good in yellow velvet Marc Jacobs.

Maggie Gyllenhaal looked all woman in Louis Vuitton & Anne Hathway sparkled in Valentino.

But Jennifer Lopez busted out the big gown & looked out of this world in Zuhair Murad.

Of course as with any event some people caught my eye for all the wrong reasons so here are a few re-styles by yours truly;
Rachel Bilson originally wore Louis Vuitton and while the dress was nice I just thought it made her look a little short. I'd have liked to see her in Marchesa with YSL heels.

My current ultimate girlcrush Carey Mulligan looked short & frumpy in Miu Miu. I think she'd have looked much more stunning in Marchesa with Miu Miu heels or Erdem with Balenciaga heels.

Tomboy & Twilight leading lady Kristen Stewart got it wrong again in a black Chanel. She has good legs but they looked anything but with the asymetric cut & sheer panel you'd never guess. I'd rather have her in Haider Ackerman & Burberry platforms or Qasimi with a muted red lip please.

And finally the gorgeous Marion Cotillard wore a body-con, floor skimming bejewelled Christian Dior gown but I didn't think it really did much for her body. For show stopping sparkle & a more flattering cut I'd have chosen Marchesa or Alexander McQueen.

What would you wear to the MET Ball?

I think I'd go for this Marchesa number. I'm a big lover of Marchesa.

He has a paintbrush for a mouth and uses his work to speak out against politics & much more.

His impasto & colourful bubble text creations really speak volumes about the state of society today & our obsession with celebrity culture & beauty while he also does artwork for projects against war & sex trafficking.

This week heralded the news that we are 'strangers in our own country' with English pupils as the minroity in 1,500 schools.

this the final nail in the coffin of British cultural identity or a credit to Britain's acceptance of other cultures & desire to shelter those in need?

What does it even mean to be British anymore?

When I asked myself this question I found it tough to answer.

Britain to me is scones, tea & crumpets, corgis & The Royals, big red buses, phoneboxes, tartan & punks & the union jacks printed on everything from scarves to cushions. But the punks lost Maclaren last week & British design lost it's best in Alexander McQueen earlier this year.

What does Britain still have to be proud of?

Last night I finally got around to watching a film I'd be wanting to watch ever since I heard about it; 'Cracks' by Jordan Scott, the daughter of Ridley Scott featuring actresses, Eva Green (The Dreamers, Quantum of Solace), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, Me & Orson Welles) and Juno Temple (St.Trinians 1&2, Atonement).

You can watch the trailer in the post below this one but it's basically the story of a group of girls alone at a boarding school, all of them wishing & hoping that their parents will come back to get them & trying to enjoy life in the meantime under the instruction of their teacher Miss G (Eva Green) who is exposed for the fraud she is by the arrival of new student Spanish aristocrat Fiama (Maria Valverde).

Although the book, of the same name and basis for the screenwriting by Sheila Kolver, was based in apartheid South-Africa the film took the setting of isolated Stanley island in 1930's England. The girls wear prim pastel printed dresses, headbands and saddle shoes. The wild surrounding hills gave the film a feel of 'Wuthering Heights' while the school uniforms & quiet, yolky light & mounting erotically charged tension reminded me more of 'Picnic At Hanging Rock'. In the same way the film is beautiful, relevant, harrowing & despite not having alot of dialogue, like most films involving younger casts, the camera angles & long shots never lacked in intensity of expression or setting.

Scott really wraps you up in the girl's world which appears cold & unfeeling & at the mercy of the church & social standards, both of which they must escape if thmey aim to capture their many desires. I loved this film & you might too.

Flowers in my hair

A certain Miss Lea Michele of 'Glee' in Etro has not helped my hankering after florals either on floor grazing gowns or adorning shoes or even braided through hair.
I was watching Jordan Scott's new film 'Cracks' last night (about 1930's schoolgirls trapped in a love affair with their enigmatic teacher Miss G which twists a 'Lord of the Flies' esque tragedy when a mysterious new girl arrives in the form of Spanish aristocrat Fiama) & in one scene the girls indulge in a midnight feast dress up, donning floaty gowns & makeup & curling their hair and stuffing it with wild flowers.

Seeking inspiration I went on a little hunt for more flora & fauna adorned locks.

Get some 1930's jazz classics on your iPod & go on a hunt for beautiful flowers either wild or store bought & start flower arranging through braids & in buns! Here's a trailer for 'Cracks', which you should all watch if you love Lolita-like schoolgirl coming of age drama as much as I do.

Let us begin with Ann Demeulemeester. Wonderfully eccentri every season. The collections always feel so cinematic, like walking concept sketches for a character in some gothic Tim Burton tragi-comedy.

More Jack the Ripper like darkness at John Rochas on the effortlessly, alternative Jethro Cave.

Edward Scissorhands bondage & leathers are all the rage at Julius.

Easy styling with much less theatrics at Balmain.

Geniusly oversized outerwear at Burberry Prorsum.

Fur lined deliciousness in the style of WW1 inspired aviator jackets.

Dunhill showcased simple layering with military undertones.

I like the utility belts & yellow boot laces.

Gucci stuck to the season's colour code but went for patterned Remus jumpers & leather loafers.

Both Salvatore Ferragamo & Missoni favoured heavy knits.

Miharayashuhiro threw a few denims, tweed & leathers into the mix for a look that was laidback but noticeably urban.

I love the patched jeans & cardigans.

While styling was stripped back to the bare essentials at Kris Van Assche;

jeans, hat, boots, shirt, coat.

It would be hard to make a music post & not mention this. While the music isn't exactly of my tastes I can appreciate what Gaga does & after seeing her interview on Jonathon Ross (she also performed this song sans Beyond live=amazing) I like her alot more than I used to. The styling of this video is amazing.

2. Poker Face by Pixie Lott

Speaking of Gaga here's the adorable Pixie Lott covering her son 'Poker Face'. I almost wish that Pixie only did covers but they're all so much more beautiful than her own original songs.

3.Exterminate, Regenerate by Charlie McDonnell

I'd never heard of this guy before stumbling across him but he does something calld Trock which I'm led to believe is Dr Who related rock & while I don't like Dr Who I do like this song. I like nerdy things. Writing songs about your favourite fandom-that's just as nerdy as it gets & well ukulele's are the shit.

4.Pure Imagination by Gene Wilder

An oldy but a gooy. Whenever I hear this song played on a TV advert it haunts me for days. So good. The Johnny Depp/Tim Burton version will never measure up to it's magnificence.

5. Secrets by One Republic

I like a bit of good cello. I like it when classic music is fused with modern. This band has taken a really good new direction having broken away from Timbaland and his horrible brand of hip hop/pop. Eugh.

Karl Lagerfeld had the girls at Chanel FW2010 sporting some serious heavy metal & crystals, chunky above the knucle rings & dainty ice-like hair pieces. While the girls at Kenzo FW2010 were well & truly prepared for the cold weather in 70's inspired large floral bloom prints, sloppy capes, fur bibs, felt trilbys & fur lined suede boots, knee high. Antonio Marras has done it again. I love this collection, head over wedge heels love it.

Alexander McQueen's Final Collection FW2010
Press Play

The final piece of McQueen's collection, the tailored golden feather jacket, comes as a tribute to the tale of Icarus who flew to close to the sun. But if that tale is anything to go by, for me, considering the many accomplishments of his short life, Alexander McQueen was the sun. The sun of the fashion world at least & I don't think anyone will come close to comparing again. If you spilt tears over McQueen's untimely death that makes two of us & this should only come as a sequel to that sadness. His final collection was presented without his usual theatrics to a group of invited fashion editors & friends. His right hand Sarah Burton spoke of his influences as the Dark Ages-a time of violence, superstituion, contrasts, romanticism & nostalgia. These themes are easily spotted in the floor length Medieval skirts, structured bodices, long belted decorative coats & opulent photo-printed silks. The solemn pared down faces of the models seem otherworldly when combined with the eerily morbid religious iconography in the priest printed gowns with angel wing backs, like McQueen's inner demons projected straight into print.
Fashion's 'Enfant Terrible' has left us all with something irrevocably beautiful.

So I saw Tim Burton's 'Alice In Wonderland' this weekend & the cotsume design was the best thing about it, no competition. Colleen Atwood is a genius. She has done the costume design for a number of Burton's films as well as for the band My Chemical Romance for the single 'The Black Parade' featured on their 3rd album of the same name. I do hate to bombard you with runway shots but the Fall/Winter2010 season continues on & beautiful things fall from it's mouth at every turn. It's like a curse. You are just enjoying the lovely, floaty things SpringSummer has produced when FW comes along & makes you desire cold weather, grunge & layers upon layers. Balmain is always a favourite. This season saw regal purples & an Adam Ant influence with jacquard blazers nipped in at the waist & red leather skinnies.

1. After.Life.
I may not be sold on Christina Ricci playing the lead just from viewing the trailer but I have a soft spot for Justin Long & a love for Liam Neeson. He plays evil characters especially well. Need a refresher-catch him in 'Batman Begins'.

2. The Good Heart
This looks morbidly amusing & Brian Cox is amazing. Paul Dano is an under-rated rising star. Need reassuring? See him in 'Little Miss Sunshine' & 'The Ballad of Jack & Rose'.

3. The Runaways
I've been wanting to see this for a long time. Initially I wasn't sold on it but if anything the styling will be good (Dakota Fanning in stockings & KStew in leather) & Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett is like casting made in heaven.

4. Remember Me
Most people would be sick/die of joy at the mere mention of Robert Pattinson in anything but I'm not really either. Twilight made me want to die but he was surprisingly good in 'Little Ashes' so I hole judgement on his acting skill. Here he plays a pretty boy, badass, hobo in love searching for his father's (Pierce Brosnan's) approval. Doesn't look like much of a challenging role but worth a watch if anything.

5. The Defendor
Want a tongue in cheek play on the superhero genre? Try 'Defendor' or 'Kick Ass'. This has Woody Harrelson & Kat Dennings so I'll definitely be seeing it. This looks like it could go either way. You know like marmite.

1. Get Him To The Greek

Russel Brand & Jonah Hill produced by Judd Apatow of Knocked Up, Superbad & Pineapple Express fame. Comedy is second nature to the guy & so is being a sex fuelled temple of ridiculous to brand. Easy success I should think.

2. The Exploding Girl

I'm always a fan of beautiful character studies shot in an honest, realistic way. This strikes me as a watch but not a must watch. It doesn't look like a life-changer.

3.Afterschool

I always prefer creepy highschool dramas and this one looks fantastically creepy & sinister.

4.Nightmare on Elm Street

I am a lover of the horror genre and despite the fact Michael Bay is producing this I still want to see it. Some of the shots look beautiful (like the snowy bedroom)-it reminds me a lot of the photogrpaphs of Diane Arbus and it looks pretty true to the series & the character of Freddie. Jackie Earle Haley who plays him is a little typecast in misunderstood evil roles but he does them well-see him in Little Children, Watchmen & Shutter Island.

5.Cyrus

For a tiny moment I thought this was a bio of the horrid Cyrus family *phew* We can all breathe a sigh of relief because it's actually a super sweet, "brutally honest" portrayal of the modern family in LA. That does sound like it should be about the Cyrus family actually. God, imagine that movie? It'd be weird right? *shudders*

I adore Abbey Lee. She has thia quiet confidence and that soft spoken Melbourne accent and everytime I see her I want to go ahead and get my nose pierced. I also never knew that Abbey was 22-that sort of makes me feel better about being 20 but then again I'm not a supermodel. The makeup at Fendi SS 2010 is absolutely stunning though.

The author JD Salinger died today aged 91, which if you think about is a pretty good run. He wrote many books but his most famous is probably 'The Catcher In The Rue' because of the amount of sick minds, say like David Chapman who name it as inspiration for the criminal intentions but it's not all that villainous a read. it's one of my favourite books and I haven't killed anybody yet...but that's probably because my favourite character isn't Holden. My favourite character is his dead little brother Allie who wrote poetry in his baseball mitt. The book definitely left it's stamp on our generation.

Taking a break from high-fashion Haute Couture here's some street style from Tokyo. Sleek, block colour silhouettes- stylish from head to toe. The first girl's black, shiny bowl cut-oh how I wish I had the face or the front to pull off a look like that. Fantastic and the second girl's medallion turned headpiece is such a brilliant idea. Her fuzzy, brushed out perm is so contrasting from how straight up and down her outfit it. The Japanese just know how to do hair it seems.

Elie Saab-never groundbreaking even where Haute Couture is concerned but consistently producing stunning evening gowns season after season. Spring 2010 was no exception, with the fluidity and softness of nature as obvious influence. It makes me want to write about yolky morning light, sea salt mist over the beach, fragile pastel pink and chalky white bird eggs, carnations, coral, bird wing skeletons, dewy moss and the trail slug's leave .

Jean-Paul Gaultier was one of the many designers to embrace the natural world in their designs for this Haute Couture season with weaved silk evening gowns in greens from grass to olive as well as cut out lace, braided hair adorned with leaves and arms stacked with silver bangles. A vision inspired by the rain-forest.

As if the makeup wasn't stunning enough- with dark eyes and red lips, the devil to Chanel's angel-the man over at Givenchy brings some supernatural super-hero villainous fashion for SS 2010 Haute Couture show. As always I love it. The man can do no wrong. He never wavers the wrong way from the Givenchy aesthetic.

Haute Couture Season always gets the blogosphere in a spin but Christian Dior and Chanel failed to thrill me this season. Christian Dior was like Audrey Hepburn versus Cruella Deville in a cat fight at the races. I just didn't love it and as for Chanel- I adore Karl Lagerfeld but he didn't give us anything we hadn't seen before- trademark twee suits but in a sparkling knit, some Valentino-esque frou-frou pastel ruffles and candy coloured skirt suits. Beautifully boring, however every cloud has a silver lining and at Chanel it was the hair. Look at it. Beehive studded with flora and fauna and a full face-gracing fringe.
