Snapshot- Photographer Spotlight
BILL HENSON
Henson is an Australian contemporary art photographer I discovered about 3 years ago when I first acquired my obsession with all things 'ruined childhood'. His works encompasses everything that would make me swoon; darkness, free interpretation, adolescents stuck between childhood and adulthood, play with focus, 'Lolita' complexes, over the shoulder looks, the city and yolky back lighting. I enjoy the way in which all of his images are untitled in order to give the viewer the chance to interpret it as they see fit. Wouldn't the world be a much more interesting place if songs and art had no titles, no obvious just underlying meanings? That's probably why I liked English Literature so much haha. I really am a huge nerd. Especially for art. The painterly aspect of his photos really appeals to me. He uses chiarascuro (contrast between light & dark) which my art teacher never stopped going on about and they usually portray opposing forces like boys and girls, childhood and adulthood and darkness and light. One always has to prevail over the other, doesn't it? I know that alot of his photographs some of which involve nude children were the focus of huge controversy and while I don't agree with such exploitation I do love his photography. I think he effectively shows how tough the transition is in every era of society.

My name is Jasmin but I've always liked boys with girls' names and names that end in -ie.
I'm an insomniac. I like to stay up late to watch the sky change from blue to black to beige and blue again. I'm a critically indecisive realist whose in love with the little things. I enjoy writing lists and schedules but never stick to them. I want to learn to do a million things like speak Swedish, play guitar, skateboard, hula hoop and play poker. My mind is always turning over a million things but I am a simple girl and I never ask for much. I'm a typical nerd and I'm excited by fashion, photography, books, ideas and theories.
I could pour through books and magazines until my eyes dribbled down my face in a torrent of glitter and sequins. It's true.
I like to paint what I write, write what I think and photograph what I see.
"Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everybody I've ever known."
